Rejuv Skin + Laser

IPL is Rejuvs go-to for treating a wide range of conditions on the skin. IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, which we use for pigmentation as it gives a fast and very effective result for removing or fading down most brown ‘spots’ on the skin.

Before we look further at the solution though we must first look at the cause of pigmentation.
There are a few reasons why we get these annoying brown marks on the skin but the most common is sun exposure. Ultraviolet Radiation emitted by the sun is present every day, even on overcast days and we all know it is the cause of skin cancer. UV rays have a ‘photochemical’ effect on the skin. Exposure to the sun causes skin cells to react by triggering a process to protect the skin from further damage – and this process ultimately is what we see as a tan. Approximately 13 chemical steps inside the skin leads to pigmentation development and your nice tan, or those annoying marks. The particular cell in the skin responsible for making your pigment is called a Melanocyte. This group of cells are stimulated into producing melanin (brown pigment) with UV exposure. The Melanocyte is quite a long lived cell in the skin, and you can just imagine how many hours of exposure we get as we age. Sun exposure and its ultimate damage is cumulative, so a 15 minute exposure today adds to the 30 mins walking from the car yesterday, adding to the days spent in the sun at the beach 10 years ago! The Melanocyte gets damaged during its life and that damage results in abnormal pigment depositing in surrounding skin – and we see this as brown spots and freckles, liver spots etc.
Sometimes a combination of hormonal conditions and sun exposure cause certain types of pigmentation like melasma, and those larger ‘liver spots’ often seen around the eye and top of the cheeks.

IPL is very effective at treating most pigmentation as the wavelengths we use can see the brown melanin very well. This attraction leads to heat in the actual sun spot which then leads to the pigmentation being able to be exfoliated from the surface of the skin. The correct technique, our 30 + years experience guarantees this, and our medical grade (and FDA approved) IPL system will give you the best results. Most often it takes only one or 2 treatments to clear the majority of pigment from the skin. But its not permanent unfortunately, unless you never go back outside again. We usually recommend a maintenance treatment in a few years time as more pigment builds up in the skin.
The most important thing after any IPL treatment and to limit the amount of sun damage in the future is the simple application of sun screen. Every day, even in Winter.

One side effect of having pigmentation treatments with IPL is that the heat in the skin helps stimulate collagen growth. So you will have a clearer and smoother skin after full face pigmentation treatment. We give you that part for free.....
