Your skin through menopause

Collagen, menopause and the science of aging well. Aging skin explained, the real drivers and the real solutions.

Rejuv Skin + Laser

There tend to be two camps when it comes to ageing skin: some people feel grateful and proud to show the story of their life on their face, while others feel less impressed by the changes they see. The truth is, our skin ages differently—at different rates, in different ways, and for different reasons.

Genetics and sun exposure are the biggest drivers of how our skin changes over time, with hormones and stress playing significant roles as well. We all recognise the signs: loss of firmness, pigmentation, wrinkles, thinning, sagging (especially around the jowls and under the chin), dryness, or even unexpected oiliness and breakouts.

Collagen is the structural foundation of our skin, and the visible signs of ageing largely come from the reduced ability to produce it. Collagen production begins to decline from around age 25, but during the first five years of perimenopause and menopause, we see a dramatic 30% drop. After that, collagen continues to deplete by 1–2% each year.

But it’s not all doom and gloom. Our skin is very much alive, and there are many ways to stimulate and support collagen production. The fibroblast—the cell responsible for making collagen—may slow down, but it can absolutely be reawakened.

For more than 35 years, Rejuv’s founder, Heather, has worked hands-on with skin and continuously researches methods, technologies, and products that genuinely stimulate fibroblast activity. Rejuv offers only the treatments backed by science, proven results, and personal testing—Heather has tried them all on her own skin. You could say she’s the ultimate guinea pig.

At 60, she looks younger than her younger sisters (a small brag) proving that genes are only part of the story. Consistent skincare, daily sunscreen, and treatments that truly reverse signs of ageing and stimulate your own collagen production keep your skin healthy, resilient, and glowing.

Treatments do not need to be harsh, some treatments aim to trick the skin into thinking its damaged and that wakes up the fibroblast. Some treatments provide energy to the fibroblast - like replacing the battery. Other treatments focus on refining the surface of the skin, stimulating your new skin to be visible faster. Its amazing what simple deep hydration does for the skin - using ingredients like hyaluronic acid, peptides and niacinamide, that hold the moisture in, and stimulate your collagen production. Think of this as feeding the skin.

One client, in her 80's had the most beautiful healthy skin, and wrinkles. When you look at her, all you see is her skin, not her lines. Lets give ourselves a break, your skin has been through alot over the years, give it some love.
